Scenic circular walking route in the Heart of Scotland
64 miles / 103 kilometres |
Ideally split into 5 stages, all with their unique range of countryside and walking, this is a walk to suit most groups. If you want longer sections the route can be easily broken into a four or even three day walk making use of some of the alternative route sections that are available to this trail.
The trail is very well waymarked so with the appropriate maps and supporting directional data it is straightforward to navigate. But like all walks in the Highlands, there are some sections particularly in the northern areas where walkers must recognise the need to be suitably prepared for walking in higher hills where weather can change so quickly.
The Cateran trail was developed by Perth & Kinross Countryside Trust
(PKCT) with the support of the local landowners. PKCT manages and actively promotes the Trail and the
official website can be found at www.caterantrail.org.
The website tells the story of the marauding cattle thieves, the Caterans, after whom the Trail is named,
and provides details and interesting snippets about the areas through which you will pass. It also provides
an interactive map of the route which is available for download and printing.

This website has been developed collaboratively between
Walking Support and
I-Net Support. The former is a guiding, booking and support services business specialising in
long distance walking routes where we have practical knowledge and experience of the trails we promote. Although
this route has been in existence for some years it is only in 2009 that we have started to promote the route.
This site, in keeping with other I-Net Support portal sites, offers the following key information:-
